Eid ul Adha is a three day celebration, which occurs on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah Eid is a happy time and the festival is celebrated in many different ways in different countries. Everyone wears new clothes - in bright colours - and many have beautiful embroidery and shiny sequins.

  3. What is Eid –ul-Adha? • Eid-ul-Adha is the celebration of sacrifice and marks the end of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. • This celebration is to remember ProphetIbrahimwho was very obedient to God and was ready to sacrifice his most precious possession when he was asked to do so. Ibrahimwas very patient and in constant search for truth. • Muslims all over the world reflect on these qualities in their lives at this time of the year.

  4. What • Eid al Adha is the latter of two Eid festivals • On the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, Muslims around the world wear their nicest clothing and attend a special prayer gathering in the morning. • This is followed by a short sermon, after which everyone stands up to hug and greet one another

  5. Meanings • Has different meanings all in relation with after Hajj • Means: Feast or Sacrifice • Festivity after Hajj • Feast of the Sacrifice • Greater Eid

Context • Eid Al Adha is an Islamic festival in commemoration of Ibrahim’s willingness • By following Allah’s command to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience • But intervened with a sheep as an alternate sacrifice instead of his son • “Lo! Ibrahim was a people obedient to Allah, by nature upright, and he was not of the idolaters”(16:120-121)
