  4. The Network Plans • Three Phases (1995) • Phase One : LAN’s of Faculties. • Phase Two : Backbones. • Phase Three : WANs of Campuses .

  5. The Existing Networks • Established LANs in various faculties • Most LANs are connected to the communication room at the unit. • Some are connected via local PBX, and others are connected using wide area technologies (ISDN , Datacloud)

  8. Zaknet Connection • Satellite access to Internet • Download Speed = 192kbps • Satellite dish of 60 cm diameter • Dish pointed to Nile Sat • Zak card plugged into the server

  9. Data Cloud • Frame Relay technology offered by the Sudan Telecommunications Company(Sudatel) • Bandwidth of 64kbps, upgradable to 2Mbps • User equipment consist of DTU and router

  10. The Proposed Networks • The following interconnections are to be made within the university: • Shampat campus to comm. room(Radio link) • Within Education campus (optical fibre) • Within the main campus (optical fibre) • Soba campus to comm. room (Radio link)
