Chemical Burns • If the chemical is a powder, brush it away • Remove contaminated clothing • If eyes are affected, flush with cold water • Cover burn with sterile gauze or a clean cloth • Do not break blisters
Electrical Burns • Do not touch the person until the current has been stopped • Stop the current by unplugging the appliance from the outlet • If electricity source cannot be turned off, move the source away from the person using an insulating object • Check the person for breathing and circulation • Call campus police
Cold Burns • Warm the area slowly using tepid water • Wrap the area in sterile dry guaze • Do not break blisters • Seek medical attention
Burning Chemicals on Clothing • Extinguish burning clothing by using an emergency shower • Remove contaminated clothing, but avoid damage to the burned area • Remove heat with cool water until the tissue around the burn feels normal to the touch • Cover the injured person to prevent shock • Seek medical attention immediately
