History of ASSIST • 1996 Transfer Articulation Task Force recommended a tracking system to access the effectiveness of a new transfer model • 1997 University and Community College Boards signed MOU to build a data warehouse under the direction of ASU
History of ASSIST • 1998 State legislature appropriated funds, matched by institutional resources, to build prototype • 1999 Joint resolutions and security plan signed by governing boards and participating institutions • 2000 ASSIST fully implemented
History of ASSIST • 2015 ASSIST processing and reporting moved to AZ Transfer • 2016 ASSIST can track 3 million unique students who have taken 30 million courses

How is ASSIST Used? • To evaluate transfer effectiveness • How many students transferred to a university? How many hours? • How many students transferred with an AGEC or an Associate Degree? • How many transfer students earned a baccalaureate degree? What majors?
How is ASSIST Used? • To analyze academic performance and course-taking behavior of transfers • How well did students perform in their first semester after transferring? • How well did students do in upper level courses after transferring? • What is the graduation rate of students who transferred?
Why Use ASSIST? • Allows community colleges to track their students through the transfer process • Serves as a valuable decision support tool for institutional policy makers who need answers to help them address curricular reform issues
Methodology New Transfers • AZCC New Transfer : students who entered the university in the academic year with 12 or more accepted transfer credits from Arizona public community colleges

Methodology Baccalaureate Degree Recipients who were AZCC New Transfers • Number of AZCC transfer students who received a baccalaureate degree in the academic year from any of the Arizona public univerisities • AZCC transfer student: student who entered the university with 12 or more accepted transfer credits from Arizona public community colleges
Methodology New Transfers’ Graduation Rate • AZCC New Transfer : students who entered the university in the academic year with 12 or more accepted transfer credits from Arizona public community colleges • Graduation : receipt of baccalaureate degree from any of the 3 state universities • Within 3 years : time period starting with semester of transfer and ending with the summer semester of the second AY after enrolling at university. For example, the 3 year window for students transferring in AY 2007-2008 ends with summer of 2010.

Key Finding: After 6 years, full-time students with 12 – 34 CC transfer credits have a higher graduation rate than students with 60+ transfer credits that are enrolled part-time! *
