The University Environment • South Wales offers great value for money, and the British Tourist Authority recently cited Cardiff as one of the best value cities in the world. • Food, entertainment, accommodation, and other day-to-day costs are likely to be lower than in many other parts of the UK. As a student you will also get lots of concessions on everything from cinema tickets to haircuts.

Accommodation fees are different for each room type. • Our halls are super-convenient, situated on a compact campus • Hi-speed broadband internet services available in all halls (if they have suitable equipment to connect). There is no additional charge for this service

UNIVERSITY OF GLAMORGAN LIFE AT GLAMORGAN: Accommodation Halls of Residence 1 Glamorgan Court This development offers residents excellent self-catering facilities Studios are arranged into clusters of six study bedrooms with shared kitchen and dining space. En-suite facility consists of a shower, wash basin and toilet. The layout of the study bedrooms and kitchens offer the latest in design. Fees for 2007/08 are £75:00 per week self catering 2. Phillip Evans & Phillip Squire Halls Accommodation for male and female students in single study bedrooms, all of which are fitted with wash basins. The kitchens on each floor include microwave oven, fridge-freezer and cooker. Communal facilities include showers and toilets. Each house has a lounge with a TV. Fees for 2007/08 are £62:00 per week self catering

8. UNIVERSITY OF GLAMORGAN LIFE AT GLAMORGAN: Accommodation Other Accommodation Options An array of private accommodation is available on Glamorgan’s doorstep. A range of housing is just a five-minute walk away, within a one-mile radius, from as little as about £45 per week, and the university will help you find a suitable place. The majority of university students live in the local community, where accommodation usually consists of shared houses in which individuals have their own room with communal areas such as kitchen, bathroom and lounge. Some students prefer to live in Cardiff and commute to the University (20 minutes by train)

UNIVERSITY OF GLAMORGAN LIFE AT GLAMORGAN: Students Union The Students union isthe focal point for social life on campus Discos, live bands, cabaret, and comedy are just some of the events hosted at the union’s own nightclub, Shafts. With regular weekly favourites and special events like the Battle of the Bands and Stars in Students’ Eyes The Union has two pubs: Baa Bar, a favourite for Big Screen sporting action Smiths, the lively downstairs café bar area – an ideal spot for a quiet relaxing drink and famous club sandwich. The union operates a free minibus shuttle service from the campus every night to ensure you get home safely.

LIFE AT GLAMORGAN –GENERAL • There are lots of pubs nearby that are popular with students and many hold regular events from quizzes and karaoke to disco and DJ evenings • A multiplex cinema is just a few miles from the University. • In Pontypridd you'll find twice-weekly indoor and outdoor markets alongside a range of familiar high street stores. There's also a venue that is cinema, theatre and musichall in one.

12. LIFE AT GLAMORGAN –GENERAL • World-class theatres, galleries and museums are within easy reach of Glamorgan. The National Museum and Gallery in Cardiff houses a superb collection of Impressionist work, including Renoir, Cezanne and Monet while the Museum of Welsh Life and Cardiff Castle are among the UK's top visitor attractions. • Excellent sports facilities exist on campus. You can play basketball, rock climb, aerosalsa, boxercise, work out, relax in the sauna, learn to play golf, weight lift.... pretty much whatever you fancy. Also excellent outdoor facilities exist for football, rugby, hockey and tennis.

Typically 12 to 15 hours per week. • Thus, much more preparation and work required outside lectures to prepare for seminars/tutorials/workshops • Note: Total Expected Workload Is the Same • You will use an electronic learning platform called “Blackboard” which will give you easy access to learning material, chat rooms, and academic staff • Deadlines for handing in work are deadlines. If you have any difficulty, keep your personal tutor informed

22. UNIVERSITY OF GLAMORGAN What will it cost me? The Welsh Government has decided not to follow England and impose fees of £3000 per year. Glamorgan will charge fees for the 2008/09 session of about £1250 per year. This fee does not have to be paid at the start of the year, though you may wish to do so. You can apply for a student loan, which becomes repayable when you start earning a salary equivalent of over about £15000 per year. www.glam.ac.uk/money
