Postwar Debts After World War I, many countries were in debt. The victors of the First World War needed money and needed a loan from the United States.
Marxist Economics A rise in wages leads people to believe that they should use fewer resources. Production is lowered due to profits, which causes unemployment. Unemployment worsens the level of under consumption.
Stock Market Crash In 1929, share prices in the stock market dropped tremendously which set off a chain of bankruptcies. The crash shook economics worldwide, and even affected countries over seas. The crash is also known as Black Tuesday.
International Effects • Germany suffered from hyperinflation, which is an uncontrollable rise in prices. • The United States raised its import duties, as did other countries. The high taxed reduced world trade by 62%. Asia depended on raw supplies from the United States.
Life During The Depression Life in the 1930’s was unbearable. Many families were evicted from their homes and moved to the West Coast in search of work. The migrants were discriminated by offensive terms such as “Okies” and “Arkies.
The End Of The Depression In 1935, Roosevelt laid out a plan to stabilize the U.S. economics called the “New Deal”. The First New Deal was self-contradictory, pragmatic, and experimental. There were three steps on the road to balance economics: Reform, Recovery and Relief.
