  1. Who is “Right” Sagar Shah

  2. Christianity • Most popular religion with 2.1 billion followers • Bible is the complete and final revelation of God • Only 1 God who manifests himself in three different forms: the Father; the Son ;the Holy Spirit • Jesus Christ is the chosen Messiah • All people are born sinners, guilty in the eyes of God • Salvation from sin is achieved by God’s grace • Those who do not believe will face eternal punishment

  3. . • Monotheistic religion and the 2nd most popular one • No God but Allah and Mohammad is his follower • They pray five times a day and believe that the sole purpose of their existence is to pay homage to God • Unlike Christians who consider themselves sons/daughters of God, Muslims think they are slaves/bondservants of God. • Quran is their bible • They believe in fasting and making other sacrifices for God • Strictly follow their beliefs and punish the wrong.

  4. Judaism • Originated in Middle east but has contrasting beliefs from Christianity and Islam. • One God, who is indivisible. • Jesus Christ is not the chosen Messiah. • God does not become human, nor do humans become God. • They believe in the concept of being born into this world with original purity. • They condemn human sacrifice, and don’t believe that one human pays for the sins of another.

  5. Buddhism • It is more of a philosophy than a religion. • They do not believe that God is the creator of the world, nor do they believe in the concepts of sin or salvation. • They believe in: rebirth- people going through a succession of lifetimes Karma- facing the consequences of our actions. • Suffering in life is inevitable • To free oneself from suffering, you have to follow the path laid out by Buddha. • Following this path will lead to enlightenment.

  6. Hinduism • 4th largest religion • Believes in the complete freedom of belief and worship and conceives the world as one single family. • Can be monotheistic or polytheistic as it depends on every individual’s own philosophy. • Believes in the presence of a supreme being. • Common beliefs : Dharma (duties), Karma (action and subsequent reaction) and the cycle of rebirth • The soul is eternal and it continually takes different forms.

  7. Agnostic/Atheist/Secular • 16% of the world- about 1.1 billion people fall in this category. • Agnostic people believe in no religion or they are completely indifferent towards religion. • Atheist don’t believe in the presence of a supreme being such as God. • Secularity is the state of being separate from religion and not having your actions be affected by religion.

  8. So who is “Right”? • According to the OED, “Right” is defined as something that is considered proper, correct or is consonant with justice or related issues. • Everyone has their own perspective of what is right! • Example: Christianity and Islam consider all faithless people as sinners, whereas Atheist believe that twisted faith in human creations (God) can cause more harm than good. • There is no definite “right” or definite “wrong” and very often we rely on what the majority consider proper/correct.
