  2. #1 Eat an Unbalanced diet Eat lots of sweet things and fatty foods!!

Fatty Foods May Cause: • SLEEPINESS • High-carbohydrate, low-protein combination is thought to increase the availability of tryptophan to the brain, which helps it make more melatonin and serotonin. The following foods may produce sleep-inducing effect: • Honey • Almonds • Banana • Poultry • Whole grains • Beans • Rice • Oatmeal • STRESS • Certain foods and drinks act as powerful stimulants to the body and hence are a direct cause of stress. These foods are called "pseudostressors" or "sympathomimetics": • Caffeine containing foods (coffee, tea, colas and chocolates) • Alcohol • Refined sugar • White flour • Salt • Saturated fats • Processed foods. Processed foods, such as junk foods and fast foods, contain synthetic additives - preservatives, emulsifiers, thickeners, stabilizers and flavor-enhancers

  4. #2 Choose not to review and recite notes regularly You've probably heard many times that you can't absorb information until you're exposed to it several times. Notes enable you to write down the highlights from lectures and textbooks. A computer is extremely helpful in this capacity, as you can quickly create outlines and type information.

  5. #3 Choose to Have Negative and Limiting Attitudes • Having negative attitudes about learning, instructors, and your ability to succeed. Try saying this “ I have never been able to do math so I am sure I won’t be able to do it now!” Here is another one “I hate school!” • If you consistently remind yourself of these phrases, you will be sure to limit your abilities and flunk out of school!!

  6. #4 Make sure you don’t get enough sleep! • According to Cornell University psychology professor James Maas college students sleep an average of 7 hours 24 minutes a night. How much sleep is recommended for a college student???? • 9 hours 15 minutes

  7. #5 Study Where It Is Noisy!!

  8. #6 Don’t Use A Calendar Book • Using a calendar or a plan book would cause you to be organized. You would know what dates your test were on and when assignments were due!!

  9. #7 Skip Class or Arrive Late Repeatedly! • Skipping class ensures that you will be unprepared for the test. You will miss important lectures and assignments. • Arriving late ensures that you have irritated the instructor and disrupted the entire class!!

  10. #8 Be Like everyone else! According to the American College Testing study nearly one in four students drop out of college before completing their sophomore year. The number one reason for this is: PARTYING!

  11. #9 Overload yourself!! • Take too many classes, work too many hours on jobs, participate in too many student activities, and/or let your social life dominate your college life!!

  12. #10 CHEAT!!!! • Getting caught cheating will get you a “F” in the course and possibly cause you to get put on probation.

  13. #11 CRAM Wait until right before the test to study! Studying daily will only get you good grades!

  14. #12 Don’t Use Campus Learning Resources Learning skills counselors and learning skills workshops or classes will only provide you with information to help you become a better student!

  15. #13 Don’t Choose to set clear goals • Life is tremendously varied. At any given moment, there are thousands of things you could do. When you're driving, you could turn left, turn right, speed up, slam on the brakes, stop for lunch, stop for gas, decide to drive to Alaska to see what Kodiak bears look like, and on and on. But what is it that keeps you from ending up in Alaska every time you get into your car? Why don't you end up at random locations all the time? The answer is that you got into your car with a clear idea of where you wanted to go. You knew at the beginning.Life is the same way. If you knew in the beginning where you wanted to go, you would probably get there. Even if detours and delays arise, eventually you would get there. But if you don't know where you're going, you probably won't get there. • Having a goal gives you something to work towards! Students who set short and long term goals often achieve them!
