Use information from the text to comprehend basic story plots
Connect prior knowledge with literal information from non-fiction
Determine what characters are like by what they say or do in the story

Distinguish among basic text elements (e.g., problem and solution, fact and opinion, cause and effect)
Distinguish beginning, middle and ending sounds made by different letter patterns

9. How do schools help students pass IREAD-3? Use proven, effective teaching strategies
Require at least 90 minutes of uninterrupted reading instruction each day
Provide daily targeted interventions in addition to the 90 minutes
10. Results Per P.L. 109 students must attain a passing score on the IREAD-3 assessment to be promoted to grade 4.

Students with disabilities who case conference committee has determined promotion is appropriate
English Language Learners with a proficiency of level 3 or less in the reading domain on the LAS Links English Proficiency Assessment Summer school remediation will be required for all students who do not pass IREAD-3. Targeted instruction for the individual students needs.
