Overview Middle Grades Mathematics Standards •Focus learning on geometry, algebra, probability and statistics •Ratio and proportional reasoning provide the lens through which multiplication and division are explored •Algebraic structure develops through the properties of operations •The concept of function develops as quantitative relationships are explored •Foundations of deductive geometry are set •Data representation, begun in grades K –5, provides the foundation for the study of statistics in grades 6 –8
