  14. Class rank • Honor rankings are determined late in the spring semester. • Grade point averages are never “rounded up”. For example, a 5.999999 GPA does not qualify for Cum Laude. COLLEGE READINESS TEXAS SUCCESS INITIATIVE – requires students planning to attend a Texas public college/university meet college entrance exam standards in READING, MATH, and WRITING to enter into college level course work. Students failing to meet minimum passing standards MUST be placed in developmental programs/classes. ACT Composite score of 23+ * a minimum 19 on both English and Math SAT OLD: Combined Critical Reading and Math score of 1070; a minimum of 500 on both sections tests NEW: EBRW 480 and Math 530 TSI Assessment Math: 350 – 390; Reading: 351-390; Writing: 363-390 w/4 on essay OR 5+

College visits College Days (2 senior year) Forms can be found on the Cy-Fair HS Website > Parents and Students > Student Life Return completed form to the attendance office within 3 days of your return (must have proper signature/seal; no business cards) No penalty for exemptions Last day to take a college day: Fall: December 8th Spring: May 11th

  32. Myths about Applying • Submitting my application is like a commitment to attend. False! • I have to take my SAT/ACT before I can apply. False! • I have to send off all my application materials at the same time. False! • I should focus on only scholarships now. False! • I can wait until right before the deadline to apply. Also, false!

COLLEGE APPLICATION CHECKLIST • Complete the college applications.* • Send test scores. • Send official transcripts. • Request recommendation letters (if required). • Check status. *Some applications require a fee; your application will not be processed until the fee is paid. Some waivers are available if you qualify. See Mrs. Stockton if you have questions.

  40. Step 3: Official Transcripts Registrar’s Office Requests Order forms must be submitted for each college and scholarship application; up to six colleges per request form. Requires a three day advance notice Official Transcript Pricing: $2 if mailed, most out of state colleges require transcript to be mailed; order only one if using Common Application Free if submitted electronically On-line: $6 ($2 district fee + $4 handing) Unofficial transcripts cost $1.00 and can be handed to the student at the end of the day if ordered before lunch time

STEP 4: LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION FOR Teachers • Only provide letters of recommendation when requested, suggested, or if it can enhance application • 3 WEEKS ADVANCE NOTICE is requested for all recommendation letters • Ask teachers in person or with a personal e-mail; do not just have a link sent to them • Provide your resume • Give directions on uploading or mailing letter as well as the deadline • Waive your right to view the letter • Follow up with the teacher to ensure it has been sent; write a thank you letter FOR Counselors • 3 WEEKS ADVANCE NOTICE is mandatory for all recommendation letters or college forms requiring counselor input • First, order an official transcript in the registrar’s office and send it to the counseling office. (It will be given to Mrs. Fumic.) • Next, fill out a Senior Profile Packet (from Mrs. Fumic in counseling office) • Finally, make the request by opening a senior folder with Mrs. Fumic and submitting the following materials: • Senior Profile Packet • Any necessary application forms and deadlines

Admission Decisions… • Automatic Admits & “Assured Admission” Admits • Rolling Admits Some schools send letters weekly to “automatic admission” students or reviewed students. • Early Action/Decision Admit Students that apply at schools that officially offer “early admissions” typically receive notification by January • Regular Decision/Admissions (majority of schools) Admission decisions sent February - April
