Whatchagonnado? • Date: Fri, 3 Nov 2006Folks, I'm trying to find any policies online posted by Academic/College libraries on use of or blocking of sites like MySpace, Friendster, Facebook, and the like.  Our library has no policy currently and we're seriously considering the impact the use of such sites is having on our students' ability to use the computers in the library for academic work. GUIDELINES TO MAINTAIN A LIBRARIC* ATMOSPHERE • Be respectful of people, the materials and the facility. • Follow the guidelines in the Student Handbook. • Use a very quiet voice. • Music listening devices are not allowed as per the student handbook. • Bottled water is allowed if it is capped and kept on the floor. No other food or drink is permitted in the library. • Have a pass that indicates the time you should be arriving at the library. If you need to stop at your locker or use the bathroom, do so before coming here. • Bathroom privileges limited to 5 minutes. Ask for pass and sign in and out at the desk. • Keep track of your backpack and other possessions. • Use computers responsibly according to the Acceptable Use Policy. • Give priority for computer use to students in the library with a class. • Return borrowed materials on time. See details of the borrowing policy posted throughout the library. Prolonged overdues can result in loss of computer privileges and withholding of schedules. • Consequences for not following these guidelines: 1st - Warning; 2nd - Move seat; 3rd - Suspended from library for one month.
