  2. The Mool Mantar The first line of the Mool Mantar says there is only one God. This tells us Sikhs believe there is only one God. The second line says Eternal Truth is His Name. This means they believe his name is Eternal Truth. The third line says He is the creator. The third line means God created the world. Without fear or hate means he doesn’t hate anyone and is not afraid of anyone or any thing. Immortal and without form means God has no form and he is immortal. The sixth line says Beyond birth and death. This means God was never born and will never die. The seventh line is He is the enlightener. This means that Sikhs believe God is the enlightener. The last two lines are put together. It says: Who can be reached by the true grace and mercy of a true Guru. This means that only Gurus with true grace and mercy can reach God.

The Sikh Langar • All the food at The Sikh Langar is vegetarian so everyone can go to the Langar if vegetarian or not. • The Sikh Langar takes place in the Gurdwara- the Sikh worship place. • Everyone sits on the floor so everyone is equal and nobody is taller. It’s also in case they run out of chairs.

  4. The Five K’S • The Kesh – The Kesh represents the hair. All Sikh men wear turbans. They wear turbans to keep their hair tidy because they ARE NOT allowed to cut their hair. • The Kara - The Kara is a steel bracelet. All Sikhs wear the bracelet to show they are part of the Khalsa brotherhood. • The Kanga – The Kanga is a wooden comb. Sikhs wear the wooden comb underneath their turbans. • The Kaccha – The Kaccha is pants/underwear. They are a bit like boxer shorts. Both men and women can wear them. • The Kirpan – The Kirpan is a dagger to show they can fight for their religion.

  5. Khalsa • Notall Sikhs join the Khalsa. • Sikhs need to be 14 before joining the Khalsa. • If you join the Khalsa you will have a ceremony called: The Amrit Ceremony. • In The Amrit Ceremony you have a special drink called: Amrit water.   6. Naam Karan • The Naam Karan is the baby naming ceremony. • The parents of the baby can’t name the baby as soon as they are born. They need to wait for the Naam Karan. • In the Naam Karan the Guru Granth Sahib Ji– the Sikhholy book – is opened on a random page and the first letter of the first word in the hymn of the random page will be the first letter of the babies name. • For example if the letter was a H, the babies name might be Hardit. • If the baby was a boy his name would be Hardit Singh. (Singh means lion) • If the baby was a girl the name would be Hardit Kaur. (Kaur means princess.)

  7. Sewa • Sewa is important to Sikhs because they do good deeds selflessly. That means they don’t expect anything in return. • There are three types of Sewa and they are: • TAN – This is physical service, • MAN – This is a mental service, • DHAN – This is a material service.
