Why do children have to complete SATs Tests? • Compulsory for all eligible year 6 students • Gives indication of National Curriculum levels • A standardised indicator of progress made since KS1 • Results given to secondary schools and may be used to organise ability classes • Used to measure school’s performance
When are the tests? • Monday 10th May 2010 – Friday 14th May 2010 • Science tests MAY be taken on Friday for selected schools only.
What tests will the children complete? • Reading, Long Writing, Short Writing, Spelling, Maths (Paper A and B), Mental Maths
What can we do to help? • Revision resources: CGP, Letts Study Guides, etc • Internet sites: BBC Bite Size, www.woodlands.sch.uk, • SAM Learning • Homework • Everyday activities – shopping, car number plate games, TV, challenges, question of the day.....
What can we do to help? • Ensure children are on time each day • Ensure children attend each day, even if unwell • Home routines - Early nights • Reduce revision during actual SATs week • Ensure children eat breakfast : • Wilbury Year 6 Breakfast Bar!
