  2. Meet the Author : Cynthia Rylant • Cynthia Rylant was born in Hopewell, Virginia, on June 6, 1954. She grew up with her mother and grandparents in Beaver, West Virginia. • Growing up, she liked comic books, pets, pajama parties, and the Beatles. • Now Cynthia Rylant lives in Oregon with her son and two cats. • "Playing is the greatest training you can have for being a writer."

  3. Meet the illustrator : • Mark Teague and his family live in upstate New York. He worked in a bookstore after college. His job was to set up the books for display. • The children's books made him remember his childhood. As a boy, he had written his own stories and drawn pictures for them. • Working in the bookstore inspired Mark Teague. He soon began his grown-up career as a writer and illustrator of children's books. • Today, he illustrates his own and other authors' books. Mark Teague

  4. Genre – Fiction Sometimes characters in fiction are funny. • Look for: • Things that a character does or says that are funny. • Other funny parts of the story. Story Summary:Poppleton goes shopping for a bed and makes sure that he gets the perfect one.
