A Transformed Life Romans 12
A Transformed Life • What does a transformed life look like? • 1. Surrender – Romans 12:1; Daniel 3:16-18 • We must stop making treaties (with God and with the world) and start surrendering.
Surrender • A life of surrender says “It does not have to always be about me.” • A life of surrender says “It does not always have to be my way.” • A life of surrender says “I don’t have to always be right.” • A life of surrender says “God how do you want me to serve you?”
Renewal • Rom. 12:2 – “renewing of your mind” • Where does sin start? • A transformed Christian thinks differently.
Renewal • When you think like a Christian should you may ask questions like: • Who needs to be lifted up? • What do I spend most of my time doing or thinking about? • How do I develop my relationship with Christ?
Service • Romans 12:3-8 • Every Christian has a gift and should be serving. • Nicaragua Christian School
Service • David McCrary – “I am not trained to do this, I just wanted to help kids.” • Bible School Class • Meals • Security • Teens • How are you serving others?
Love • Romans 12:9-10 “devoted to one another” … “preference to one another” Choice • Self-preservation • Love of Others
Love • If I love you as I should then I am going to have to get involved in your life. • If I love you it may cost me some time, money, or effort. • Intense love does not measure, it just gives.Mother Teresa
Diligence • Romans 12:11 – “Do not lack diligence” • Have you ever quit anything? • What if Noah had just given up? • What if Abraham had never left Ur? • What if Christ had decided the CROSS was too hard to suffer?
Diligence • We must fight our culture on this point. • Everything does not happen instantly. • Christianity is a marathon, not a sprint. • John Stephen Akhwari
Perspective • Romans 12:12 “rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer,” • Perspective causes the Christian to see things differently than those in the World around us.
Perspective • Why would you stay married to the same person for life? (90+ years – longest marriage) • Why would you spend time every week at church? • Why would you budget money to give to the church? • Why would you abstain from some forms of pleasure, fun, and desire?
Community • Romans 12:13-20 / John 11:35 • Do you get along with your Christian brothers an sisters? • Do you rejoice with others who rejoice and are you saddened when others are upset? (v. 15)
Community • If we (the church) do not exhibit community where else will people find it? • Do you care enough about your brothers and sisters here to get to know them better? • Transformed Christians value community.
Righteousness • Romans 12:21 • Don’t ask “Can I be righteous?”, but ask “How will Christ’s righteousness be displayed in me?”
Have you been transformed? • Are you a new recruit even though you have been a Christian for 10, 20, 30 years or more? • What there be enough evidence to convict you of being a Christian if put before a court of law? • Are you happy with your growth (transformation) as a Christian? • What are you going to do about it today?
