Transitioning to High SchoolOne Step at a Time BASIC FACTS • You will have most of your classes with other 9th graders. • You will be in a homeroom with all 9th graders. • You will eat lunch with most other 9th graders. • You will have a course of study that you must follow. • You must stay focused!!
Major Differences Between Middle School & High School • More freedom & more responsibility • You get to choose your classes • Your classes will be more challenging • More homework & more studying • All your classes will count toward graduation starting in grade 9. • All your grades are averaged into your Grade Point Average(GPA)
This session will address: • How you can be successful in high school • How you can survive the obstacles that come with high school • How you can manage your schedule/time • How you can “have fun” and achieve • How you can graduate in 2014, not 2015 or later!

Extra-curricular Scene • What extra-curricular activities are available? • How can I balance participating in extra-curricular activities while maintaining good grades?
Support Scene • How will I stay focused? • How should I handle my new freedoms? • Will I have reliable counselors and teachers? • What help aids are available to assist me in my transition? • Who can I talk to when I am in need academically and socially?
Tips for Transitioning to High School • Make it a team effort • Keep a positive focus • Take a trial run • Stock up on supplies • Prepare for school the night before • Get a healthy start
Tips for Surviving Freshman Year in High School • DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! • Get involved in extra curricular activities • Be Organized • Communicate with your teachers • Get enough z’s
