Facts! • Hobart is the capital city of Tasmania. • Tasmania was once connected to Australia until the last glacier about 10,000 years ago. • The population of Tasmania is 507,626. • It is surrounded by 334 islands. • It is in the state Victoria. • The island was named after a Dutch explorer, Abel Tasman.

  3. More Facts! • Mountain Ossa is the largest mountain in Tasmania it is 1,617 meters tall. • It became an island 1000 years ago. • In 1967, Tasmania was tragically affected with the Tasmanian fires, in which there was a major loss of life and property

  5. Tasmanian Devil’s Facts!!! • Hundreds of years ago, Tasmanian devils not only lived in Tasmania, but also on the Australian mainland. • Tasmanian Devils carry their young in their pouches. Just like kangaroos!!! • Tasmanian Devils are actually not dangerous to humans. • Tasmanian Devils eat snakes, birds, fish and mammals up to the size of a wombat, and carrion (carcasses or dead animal bodies).
