  4. Negative numbers and Powers (-5)2 = (-5)(-5) = 25 (-5)3 = (-5)(-5)(-5) = -125 -52 = -(5)2 = -25 Even exponent = positive #, Odd exponent = negative #

  6. Things that are multiplied together are called… • FACTORS!

  7. Zero Power • Anything to the zero power is….. ? • 1

  8. Find the area of the shape. Area = (length)(width) Example 1

  9. Find the volume of the shape. Volume = (length)(width)(height) Example 2

  10. Your turn! • Pick a shape: or • Label the sides with monomials • Don’t be afraid to use negative coefficients and fractions  • Switch with a partner (across the aisle) • Partner will find area or volume • Switch back and check answer
