Projects AUVSI Micromouse Natcar RoboMagellan
Micromousethe maze race of the micromice • Miniature robot designed to find its way through an arbitrary maze • Competes with other micromice for the shortest time through the maze. Won last year. • Microcontrollers, robotics, C programming, maze-solving algorithms, neural networks, sensor networks, optics, circuit design, PCB design, servos, mechanical design, and more…
AUVSI • Multidisciplinary project building an unmanned aerial system (UAS). • Competes against other teams in Maryland. Took 2nd for 2009 competition seeking aerospace, electrical/computer, and mechanical engineers, as well as computer science majors. Programming, circuit design, systems integration, airframe construction, optics, mechanical design and more...
Natcar • Autonomous car that navigates a track as fast as possible using magnetic sensors • Competition: SoCalNatcar Analog circuit design, mechanical design, control systems, sensor design, and embedded system programming
Robomagellan • Design and build autonomous robot to maneuver through obstacle-filled terrain using sensors, cameras, and GPS. • Similar to the DARPA sponsored Grand Challenge, smaller scale.
Why join a project? • Develops your technical and professional skills • Real and practical applications of your curriculum • Team environment • Project experience = very appealing to recruiters • Grades get you an interview, projects get you a job • Experience not required, but genuine desire to learn is • Have fun! Show off what you have learned!
