Equator • An imaginary line that is halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole

Government • A group of citizens who make the rules for a community • The government of the United States is a democracy.
Laws • Written rules for a community used to keep it safe • We must obey all the traffic laws in order to be safe.
Consequence • Something that happens as a result of an action • If you don’t obey the law, you will suffer the consequence and go to jail.
Mayor • The leader of a city or town • Mr. Kay is the mayor of Canfield.
Judges • Citizens who are chosen to work in the courts; they decide if a person has broken the law • There are nine judges, called Justices, on the U. S. Supreme Court.
