  2. Context • Where: Sosúa, Dominican Republic • Migration from rural areas • Why: Poverty & other work opportunities • Who: Sex workers = mostly young, poor, single mothers. Clients = mostly European sex tourist. • Work: Women are independent workers. • Not trafficked • Pulled into work through friendship networks.

  3. Agency • Added dimension (key difference from other studies): • Mobility not just survival • What do workers think they will get out sex work? • How do they view European men? • What is the reality? Do they achieve their dream?

  4. Social Change • Work in groups of 3-4. • Use the readings on sex worker activism to design a program that meets the needs/empowers sex workers. • Make a brief sketch of your program. • What will your program focus on? • What will your program provide to sex workers?
