  2. Today our world houses 6.8 billion people.

  3. An estimated 1.02 billion people across the world are hungry.

  4. 300 million children around the world suffer from hunger.

  5. 2.5 billion people still lack access to improved sanitation facilities.

  6. Almost one fifth of the world's population lives in areas where the water is physically scarce.

  7. 101 million children are not attending primary school, and more than 50% of these children are girls.

  8. 33.4 million people live with HIV and AIDS worldwide. Of this figure, 2.1 million are children.

  9. The U.N. estimates that approximately 2.5 million people are trafficked each year.

  10. The 2009 World Refugee Survey estimates that there are close to 14 million refugees and asylees in the world today.
