  9. Visual Content Linking • Introduction to ports and connections • Supports granular linking with parameter mapping • Support XcelsiusExternal Interface, Portal Data and FS command connections • WebI and Crystal Reports: Prompt and filters • New visual editor for content linking

  10. Content Linking XI 3.1 vs. Content Linking XI 4.0 • Content Linking XI 4.0 • Visual Editor • Overall view of linking on a page level • Only linkable modules are displayed • Exposes linking meta-data (prompts, range names, filters, etc.) • Granular Parameter Mapping • Introducing ports end parameters • Enables mapping between parameters with unmatched names. • Content Linking XI 3.1 • Form-based Editor • Linking view on a module level • All modules are displayed • No meta-data exposure • No mapping ability • Linking is set based on declaration only. Two modules can be connected only if they are designed to match.

  11. What can be Linked? Xcelsius Viewer Crystal Report Compound WebI

  12. About Ports • Legacy • out-port • Ports are entities describe the interface of a module. Each port is characterized by action and data. Each module can have 0..n in-ports and 0..n out-ports. • In-port: represent an action that will be executed when certain data is received. E.g. : Prompt in-port of a WebI module will be re-launched with the prompts data. In-ports are visualized at the left side of the module frame. • Out-port: represent the data that will be sent when a certain action is performed. For example: the cell that is sent when the user press a button in the Xcelsius module. Out-ports are visualized at the right side of the module frame. • Granular • out-port • Ports details (name, direction and parameters) • There are two types of ports: • Legacy ports: Have no parameters, hence there is no indication on the data that these ports deal with and parameter mapping is not possible. They are called “legacy” since they compatible with previous releases content linking method. • Granular ports: Have parameters that provides information on the data these ports expect to send/receive. Facilitate parameter mapping. • These two types have distinct visualizations. • You cannot connect a legacy port to a granular port, and vice-versa.

  13. About Connections • Connection is an entity to describe how a source module is passing information to a target module. It consist of: • The source port: the out-port of the source module. • The target port: the in-port of the target module. • Parameter mapping (for granular connection) between parameter in the source port to the parameters in the target port. The mapping enables correct data exchange even if the names are not match. • There are two connection types: • Legacy connection between legacy ports: Does not include parameter mapping. Are visualized as straight lines. • Granular connection between granular ports: Require parameter mapping. Are visualized as Curled lines with little circle indicates the number of mapped parameters.

  14. Removal of Visualization Analytics from 4.0 Note 1375008: “As part of the product rationalization process, SAP has decided to discontinue investing in the Dashboard Builder visualization analytics. This means the last version that Dashboard Builder will ship these analytics is in XI 3.1, including service packs. These analytics will not be included in the next major release of the SAP BusinessObjects product portfolio…” The following analytics are removed: • Gauges: speedometer, barometer, thermometer, traffic lights • Charts: interactive metric trend, radar chart, bubble chart, pie chart, data exploration • The proposed solution is to replace those analytics with Dashboards visualizations.

  15. Agenda Introduction to BI Workspaces What’s New in BI Workspaces 4.0 Administration and Management Features

  16. Platform and Architecture changes • Componentization: • Part of the platform change (OSGi) • OSGi defines software components as bundles which can be dynamically installed and removed • Better performance • Reduced server footprint • Removed all Performance Management related servers : AADMining, AAMetrics, AAProfiler, AAQueryMgr, AARepoMgt, AARules, AASPC • Only AAAnalytics and AADashboard remain • Browser support – IE8 and Mozilla 3.6

  17. Content Migration and Content Promotion • Upgrade Manager tool is used to migrate content form BOE XI 3.x to BOE XI 4.0 • Supported content for migration – only Live to Live, not via a BIAR files • My InfoView object are migrated to a BI workspace that is located in the user private folder (My Favorite) • My Dashboard object are migrated to a BI workspace in the user private folder • Corporate Dashboard are migrated to a BI workspace under the public folder • Analytics (modules in XI 4.0) • LCM is used to promote content between 2 BOE XI 4.0 machines

  18. Management and Control • Ability to grant editing permission per workspace. Better control over security is provided by granting editing permissions on the workspace level.

  19. Management and Control • Multilingual support with Translation management tool for workspace, tab and subtab names.

  20. OpenDocumentURL • URL access only via OpenDocument • openAnalytic not supported any longer • Base URL : http://<server_name>:<port>/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp? • Parameters : • CUID: iDocID=<document_ID>&sIDType=<CUID> • NavPos: iDocID=<document_ID>&navPos=<tab_number,subtab_number> • Spath: sPath=<[folder_name]>&sDocName=<dashboard_name> • NavNames: iDocID=<document_ID>&navNames=<tab_name,subtab_name>

  21. Other New Features • Auditing – Audit view and edit • Accessibility – Support in view mode, high contrast style • Supportability – System Landscape Directory, Solution Manager Diagnostics, Instrumentation, SAP Passport
