The Downside: Contemporary Affirmative action
Research Question • Why should the current practice of affirmative action be altered?
Thesis • Although Affirmative Action was created to establish equality for all citizens, the current practice of Affirmative Action should be altered because it hinders the success of minorities, color blinds society, and creates reverse discrimination.
hindering of minority success • Clarence Thomas : Supreme Court Justice
reverse discrimination • Jennifer Gratz • Gratz v. Bollinger
Learning Outcome • This has been an on going issue since the 1960’s when it was created. • States have banned race and gender priorities. • An affirmative action system based on economic status would give a chance to those who do not have necessary resources.
History • On going issue. • Cannot advance until issue is solved.
