God Owns All---We Are Stewards • Gen. 1:26 • …”and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
God Owns All---We Are Stewards • We are responsible to God for our stewardship • Parable of the Talents • Mt. 25:14-30
God Owns All---We Are Stewards • Mt. 6:33 • “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
God Owns All---We Are Stewards • 1 Cor. 4:2 • “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
We Must Honor God • With our time, talents, money, possessions etc. • Prov. 3:9-10
We Must Honor God • “Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:[10] So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
We Must Honor God • Lev. 25:23 • “The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.”
We Must Honor God • Lev. 25:2 • “Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a sabbath unto the LORD.” • Firstfruits
We Must Honor God • The way we use our possessions demonstrates our love for God!
A Living Sacrifice • Rom. 12:1 • “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
A Living Sacrifice • We do this by using our time, talent, possessions to the benefit of others • By doing so we show God and the world that we want a close relationship with God
Helping Others • “Proper Christian stewardship is Christian live in action.” • 1 Tim. 6:6-10 • 1 Jn. 3:16-18
1 Jn. 3:16-18 - NKJV • 16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world’s goods,
1 Jn. 3:16-18 • and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
Practical Points • 1. Husband and wife together need to be financially organized • 2. Debt is not always bad • Prov. 22:7
Practical Points • 2. (Continued) • Beware of materialism • Lk. 12:15 “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth”
Practical Points • 3. Finances can affect our reputation • Failing to pay debts • Paying on time • Mt. 5:16
Practical Points • 4. Parents will teach their children to be good stewards • Parents need to be good examples • Prov. 22:6
Conclusion • If we have the kind of relationship we should have with God as faithful children – then our stewardship will not be difficult
