1. WELCOME TO SCOTT COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL 2013-2014

3. School Day • The bell rings at 3:45 to release students from sixth hour • Buses roll at approximately 3:53 each day so students must be efficient and expedient • Morning bell rings at 8:38 for students to move to first hour • First hour tardy bell rings at 8:45 • Students arriving at school after 8:45 must check in at the tardy station in the front foyer

4. Early Morning • Students are dismissed to the gym/café/upper mezzanine until the bell for first hour rings. • ECS students are released to the buses or the parking lot if they drive. • Doors at the front foyer and back ROTC entrance open each morning at 7:30 • Early Morning classes begin at 7:45 each morning and release at 8:35

5. Student Fees • Student fees are used for school wide programs such as agenda books, lockers, student incentive and recognition programs, guest speakers, etc. • For the second year student fees will be reduced to $30 • Families with more than one student at SCHS will be charged a reduced fee of $20 for each additional student

7. Tardies • Students who are in the hall at the tardy bell must report to the tardy station in the front foyer. • Upon earning a third tardy a student will be assigned a Thursday night detention. • Tardies will begin on Monday! • Students must be in their classroom before the final bell rings. • You must have your permanent ID on you at all times.

8. Dress Code • No tank tops • No spaghetti straps • No strapless • No midriff exposed • No undergarments exposed • Shorts/skirts/dresses covering over half of thigh(close to knee) • No tank tops • No undergarments exposed • No sagging pants/shorts • No chains on wallets No alcohol/drugs/vulgar language or images on any student clothing or belongings. 10. Dress Code Violations • Students who are out of dress code may be issued a warning if it is a first violation. • Depending upon the severity of the violation, a student may be asked to change clothing. They will have the option of wearing a clean article provided by administration or must wait in a private area for a change of clothing to be brought to them from home. • Hats and head coverings may be confiscated

11. Lunch • Students may not charge food. They must pay cash or have money in their account. • Checks are accepted but they must have a permanent address and phone number and counter/starter checks are not accepted. • Students are given 25 minutes for lunch each day. • Menus are published in the newspaper and on the district website.

12. Clubs • Students will have an opportunity to learn about clubs and join in advance. • Most clubs charge a fee and those must be paid before a student will be issued a club card to attend. • All students are invited/encouraged to join clubs at Scott County High School • Clubs meet once a month during the school day. • First club meeting will be Sept. 20

13. Absences • Students are allowed six parent notes • Up to 10 Doctor’s notes are accepted as well. • Students will have 10 school days to submit a note to excuse an absence. • If a student is absent from school for any reason they must have an excuse upon returning to school • Parent notes are acceptable for illness, death and family emergencies.

14. Absences, cont. • They must get an admit slip even if they have forgotten their note. • Admit slips are to be shown to each teacher on the first day back to school. • On the first day back to school after an absence students must go to the concession stand before 8:45 to submit their excuse and receive an admit slip for class.

15. Absences, cont. • 42 or more unexcused missed classes will result in seniors losing the right to walk at graduation or participate in any senior activities. • Parents and students can track absences through the IC portal. • Any student with 42 or more unexcused missed classes will not be able to attend prom. • 42 classes is equivalent to seven full days of school • Skipping a class period counts as an absence

17. Signing In or Out of School • The attendance office is located in the front foyer and the attendance clerk is Mrs. Gillispie. • When the student is called out of class to leave they must go to the attendance office and personally sign out with Ms. Talbott before they leave. Failure to do so is a violation of school policy. • Any student leaving school during the day must have a parent or guardian sign them out either in person in the attendance office/desk or over the phone.

18. Signing In or Out, cont. • Failure to do so is a violation of school rules and may result in a consequence. • We must account for all students in the building at all times. • If a student arrives at school after the start of the day(early morning included) or returns to school after signing out, they must personally sign in at the attendance office/desk and receive an admit slip.

19. Athletics • All sports information can be found at http://scottcountysports.olinesports.com/ • Schedules, rosters, and announcements are posted here. • SCHS All-Sports Passes will be available at the first home football game as well as during school in the first weeks. • Cost is $35 per student

20. Hallway or restroom during class time without a hall pass/permission • Anywhere in the Ninth Grade School • Outside of the building without a teacher • Gymnasium or auditorium without a teacher • Parking lot or vehicle during the school day without pre-approval from administration Out of Area The above locations are considered “out of area” for high school students and will result in consequences.

21. Technology • Students may not use their phones/technology • In the classroom-unless specifically instructed to do so by their teacher • During regular class time in the hallway • Students may use their phones/technology • During the five minute break between classes • In the cafeteria • Before and after school while in the building

22. Technology Concerns • Social Media – pictures and videos posted of other students can be considered bullying and used as evidence. • Once it is posted, it is there forever!! • Theft – DO NOT EVER leave technology in your bag or in a classroom. • Stolen technology is almost never recovered!!

25. Student Drivers • Parking tags must be visible in the car and no unauthorized items may be left in cars on school grounds • Driving is a privilege may be revoked if the privilege is abused. • Only juniors and seniors are allowed to drive • Parking permits will be issued beginning during the third week of school • Students can print off the application from the school website and will apply at the attendance desk. • They must have a valid driver’s license to apply • Cost is $10

26. Morning ECS Students • The bus returns to the high school at approximately 11:40 each day. • Students must remain in the cafeteria until the bell rings. • Morning ECS students will load the buses outside the cafeteria • Buses leave at 8:42 each morning

27. Afternoon ECS Students • Students will return to the high school at approximately 3:40 and will unload and immediately load their bus or car. • IF a student needs to enter the building for any reason they must remain in the concession/gym area until the bell rings at 3:45 • Afternoon ECS students will report to the cafeteria for lunch at the beginning of fourth hour each day. • They will have approximately 25 minutes for lunch and will be released from the cafeteria to load the buses at 12:08

28. Guidance Counselor appointments • Any student wishing to meet with their guidance counselor for any reason must sign up in the guidance office in advance. • They must sign up and indicate the class period they would like to be called from. • The guidance counselor will send the student a hall pass during the requested hour when their schedule permits and the student will be allowed to come to the office. • Drop ins are only honored in the case of an emergency.

RtI • Screenings for EVERYONE will begin on August 19th – 3 times per year • Students who will be working in the RtI lab with receive notice in early September • Work in the RtI lab is not optional and is not permenant • Mrs. Moneyhon and Ms. Mullen will be in the RtI lab this year • All grades MAY be scheduled for RtI…

33. College Readiness(CR) For Juniors and Seniors

34. State Assessments All juniors take the ACT (and On-Demand) test. All seniors who have not met benchmark on the ACT take the COMPASS test.

35. What is a CR Group? • This is a class scheduled during 4th hour that is designed to help a targeted group of students reach benchmarks on the ACT and COMPASS.

36. CR Criteria CR groups are based on your last year’s PLAN or ACT scores.

37. If You… Met benchmark or got a higher score- You are not scheduled in a CR class, but additional online help is available to practice for ACT/COMPASS

38. If You Are… 1-3 points below benchmark (almost there!) – You are scheduled into a 4th hour CR class to help increase your ACT/COMPASS score!

39. If You Are… More than 4 points below benchmark – You are not automatically scheduled into CR, BUT the option exists to get in if you choose – just see Ms. Williams

41. How Long is the Class? • There are 3 eleven week sessions throughout the year. • You could be scheduled into 1 or 2 sessions.

42. When are the Classes? • One group meets on Mondays and Tuesdays • Another group meets on Thursdays and Fridays • Each session is during 4th hour and lasts for 30 minutes.

43. Am I in Class all Year? Maybe not… You have a chance to test out after 11 weeks!!!

44. Testing Out There will be testing at the end of Sessions 1 & 2. If you pass testing, you will not have CR class for the 3rd session.

45. How Will I know if I’m in CR? • Your 4th hour teachers will notify you that you are in CR and will have a list telling you where to go. • Orientation is today for the students scheduled for Mondays and Tuesdays. • Orientation is Friday for the students scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays.

46. Please Remember… • This is a class and attendance will be taken. • You can’t afford to miss – you will be counted as skipping and discipline will follow. • Our goal is to help you increase your skills and scores.
