  3. Windows 2000 Is different to anything we’ve seen before Is much more scalable and robust than Windows NT Is a platform for datacenter-type systems Will address the sins of the past

The Difference in Scope • Windows NT • Designed in 1990-93 • Essentially a workgroup-focused file and print share O/S • Stressed by enterprise applications • Windows 2000 • Reflects the challenge of the 21st century • Manageability, scalability, security • Designed as the platform for enterprise applications

  5. What can you do to prepare for Windows 2000? • Acquire knowledge • Plan before you deploy • Consider building a new infrastructure rather than migrating from the old • Deploy a solid core first, then applications • Simplify, don’t complicate

The Top 10 Things We’ve Learnt about Exchange 2000 • DNS is key to successful Active Directory deployments • Active Directory replication does not work the same way as the DS • GC placement is vital • The new management model takes time to master • Third party products may be a gating factor to your deployment

The Top 10 Things We’ve Learnt about Exchange 2000 • Exchange 2000 is a great cluster application, if you take the time • Don’t go wild with Store partitioning • Systems can be much larger than before, with the right hardware and operational procedures • Outlook Web Access is now a serious contender • Migration to Exchange 2000 takes longer than you think!
