‘Help for the Homeless’, sponsored by 91.9/91.5 The Family is a grass-roots, low budget, community effort and… • Donations remain in the communities • where they are collected. …amazingly successful THANKS TO YOU! • We work directly with area homeless coalitions to stock the shelves of 44 area homeless and crisis programs in • Brown County • Appleton Fox Cities • Oshkosh • Fond du Lac • Manitowoc Help for the Homeless works directly with the homeless coalitions in Brown County, the Fox Valley, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, and Manitowoc to stock the shelves of area homeless and crisis programs so that they can dedicate their limited financial resources to providing qualified personnel, safe housing, nutritious food, education, and counseling to those they serve. The goal of Help for the Homeless is to supply a year’s worth of product to each agency. • Our goal is to supply these agencies • with a year’s worth of supplies. • For some of the smaller agencies, we hit the bulls eye! They’re just now running short of supplies again. In 2012, forty-four agencies will be receiving donations from within their communities. April Reinerio(and baby, 2011), Forward Service Corp staff , Green Bay
When you fill crisis agency shelves with new toiletries and cleaning supplies, you’re freeing up a huge amount of their staff time and money so that they can do what they do best – provide… • Qualified Personnel • Safe Housing • Nutritious Food • Education • Counseling Imagine coming to work – and having to spend a few hours on the phone asking local churches and businesses and asking them to donate your office supplies – so that you could do your job. …to those they serve.

We aim to provide them with an entire year’s worth of supplies... …and that’s actually beginning to happen at the smaller agencies! “Yes......they are carrying us through the whole year. That’s why we LOVE Help for the Homeless so much!!!” - Dawn Kasten, Fox Valley Warming Shelter
But we still have a ways to go… • “The Salvation Army definitely runs out before • the next drive, we only allow people to take 1 item every 30 days and we’re lucky if supplies last until September.” -Heather Merten, Case Worker • “Last year Fox Cities Community Health Clinic • went from 2 to 5 dentists, and from 2 to 5 hygienists. The supplies lasted through August. • More than 35,000 patients were seen in the • dental clinic last year.” -Jim Trundle, Clinic Coordinator Holy Spirit School, 8th Grade Class helps unloads delivery trucks “…and I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep”, –Robert Frost
What do they need? How can I help? When you start your day, think about what you reach for and buy a few extrasfor someone else next time you shop.
What do they need the most? • URGENT NEED (listed by most agencies): • Laundry Detergent • Diapers (sizes 3-6, and pull-ups) • Shampoo • Dish Soap • Deodorant (unscented) • Wet Wipes for Babies • VERY IMPORTANT NEED (listed by some agencies): • Toilet Paper • Toothpaste • Toothbrushes • Soap: Bar Soap, Soft Soap, Shower Gel • Paper Towels • Razors (disposable) • Tampons • Depends “Obviously we run out of some items faster than others. I would say detergent, shampoo, deodorant and size 3-6 diapers go the quickest.”
Donate by March 25th….then the fun begins! On March 30th hundreds of volunteers will deliver the products to First English on Ballard Road for sorting, counting, and packing off to the crisis agencies. Join us as we change their problem from lack of supplies… To lack of storage space! We can do this…we ARE doing this!
Thanks for participating! And thanks to our event sponsors:
