Active Voice • Active voice is where a direct action is being carried out by the subject. • Ex: The bird flew into the building.
Passive Voice • Passive voice is where the subject is being acted upon. • Ex: The building was hit by the bird.
Clichés • A cliché is a word or phrase that has been overused. • Ex: In the nick of time, as old as the hills, a diamond in the rough, the time of my life, etc.
Parallel Structure • Parallel structure is the use of words and phrases that have the same structure. Using the right parallel structure gives your writing a better flow. • Ex. Of Bad Structure: My friends and I went swimming and then we watched a movie. • Corrected: My friends and I swam and watched a movie.
