Description: • 20-23 inches long with boat- like body shape • 30-40 in wingspan • Male • Iridescent Green head • Thin white neck band • Reddish Brown chest • Grayish brown back • White in color between ribs and hips • Yellow bill • Female • Brown and Black Feathers • Dark Streak though the eyes • Orange & brown Bill • Both: • Orange legs and feet • Violet-Blue pack of wing feathers Iridescent- luminous color that seem to change when looked at from different angles
Food & Habitat • Food • Aquatic Plants • Insects • Mollusks • Seeds • Habitat • Found near fresh water including lakes, river, pods, man made water features(backyard ponds) Reproduction • Mallard often cross breed with other ducks • Produce 4-15 eggs per year • Female have to incubate the nest for 25-30 days • Ducklings leave the nest within a few days • Family groups may remain together until the next mating season
