Agenda • Introduction to Web Accessibility • It’s the LAW! • Section 504 & Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Using Screen Reader (Individual Activity) • CSU Mandate • CSULA Web Policy • Tools and Resources
Screen Reader • Software that reads aloud what is being displayed on the screen (e.g., text-to-speech and Braille output). • Useful for users who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled • Simple form of screen readers are provided with major operating systems: • Narrator for Microsoft Windows • VoiceOver for Apple • Open source screen readers: • NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows • FireVox for the Mozilla Firefox browser • Job Access With Speech or JAWS 9.0 is available for CSULA campus users

Individual Activity • Turn off the monitor and put on the headphone. • Press [Ctrl] + [Esc] to access the Start menu list. • Use the and arrows to browse the menu. • Once hearing Internet Explorer, press [Enter] to launch IE. • Press [Alt] + [D] to jump to IE’s Address Bar. • Type in IE’s Address Bar: www.google.com • Type in Google’s Search field: cal state la • Press [Enter]. • Press [Tab] until the link in Step 10 has been reached. • Press[Enter] when hearing the California State University, Los Angeles link. • Turn on the monitor to verify and raise your hand.
