Critical Reflection By: Patrick Mark
Question A (Q)How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? (A)Our product uses conventions commonly used in horror films by using a low, dark score. We use this type of score when we show the man in the woods with the chainsaw looking at our main characters. We challenged horror film conventions by filming in the day and having our main character be attacked when its light out, while most horror movies have their characters come in contact with their attacker at nigh when its dark. Our film represents no social group or issues.
Question B (Q)How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? (A) My product engages with teenage audiences because the characters in our product are teenagers. Horror films also generally engage with teenagers because of the rush of watching one. This film can be distributed through Youtube and twitter.
Question C (Q)How did your production skills develop throughout this project? (A)The first time my group got together to film the project. A lot of the shots we filmed were bad enough to where we had to redo them. Our editing was difficult because we forgot to turn off the background noise dampener so the wind was a big problem. After we re-filmed, our project looked and sounded a lot better.
Question D (Q) How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware, and online- in this project? (A)We downloaded sounds of a chainsaw and used a voice recorder to record the scream. We used Adobe Premier Pro as our editing software.
