  2. Agriculture • The best areas for agriculture are found in West Tennessee, the Central Basin, and East Tennessee valley and ridge (soil and landscape) • Livestock income is derived mostly from cattle. (dairy products and poultry) • The Central Basin is known for the Tennessee walking horse.

  3. Agriculture • Income from crop production comes mostly from tobacco, soybeans, cotton, and corn. • Tobacco is grown mainly in eastern and central Tennessee. • Cotton is found in western Tennessee, which also produces most of the soybeans and corn.

  4. Mining and Timber • Coal and other mineral products are important to the state’s economy. • The product most mined today is stone. Limestone, marble, zinc and Phosphate are all found in Eastern Tennessee. • The uplands of Eastern Tennessee are sources of timber products – oak, cedar, pine, and hemlock.

  5. Manufacturing and Transportation • Tennessee is an important automobile manufacturing center. • Memphis is an important center of cotton, chemical and paper production. • Nashville is home to factories that print books and music and make transportation equipment and textiles. • Chattanooga is a center for metal, textile, chemical, and food products.
