Entrance and Exit Surveys • 6 Master’s of Education Sociology of Education classes in 2008 and 2009 • (Anonymous) Entrance survey before course starts • (Anonymous) Exit survey in last class • During the course, we examine the influence of the media, representation, bias, editorial decisionmaking, corporate control, etc., and media literacy • Students undertake projects that examine, in particular, mainstream news programs • A major part of the course involved blogs and online discussions related to the media • The course also sought to critically examine democracy in relation to the media
