  1. The Mosquito Clamp The Mosquito ClampSquashing your mosquito problems - Today! With the development of a revolutionary air flow system the Mosquito Clamp will deliver capture levels unseen on the current market.

  2. Presentation Outline • Project Introduction • Project Scope • Product Markets • Preliminary Concept Design • Conclusions and Recommendations • Questions

  3. The Problem • Mosquitoes and biting midges are a worldwide problem which the development of the Mosquito Clamp will help alleviate. • Female mosquitoes require a blood meal from a host in order to get the protein required to reproduce. • The Mosquito Clamp works by subverting the female mosquito hunting tactics so they see the trap as a host and are captured when they go in for a blood meal.

  4. Project Scope

  5. User Requirements • The user requirements of the Mosquito Clamp are: • Captures all of the mosquitoes and biting midges attracted. • Long Lifetime. • Simple to maintain. • Power Efficient. • Compact and visually appealing unit. • Customisable with attractants and trap setups. • Portable Unit.

  6. Product Markets • Research conducted by the Mosquito Clamp team has been focused on the following markets: • Local Councils • Restaurants and Cafe’s • Sporting Clubs • Tourist Holiday Parks • Schools • Home Owners

  7. Preliminary Product Design Due to our confidentiality restrictions we can’t show our full design for the Mosquito Clamp. • The air flow system being developed is revolutionary 5 tube design that promises to dramatically increase the capture area of the trap. • The tubes are designed to minimise air resistance and are all aligned for optimal air flow. • Each tube contains an electric fan which draws the capture area air and mosquitoes into the trap.

  8. Preliminary Product Design The mosquitoes and biting midges that are captured in the air stream will be directed through sets of electrified mesh to quickly eliminate them before they flow into an easily cleanable net.

  9. Preliminary Product Design • The Mosquito Clamp units will run off Mains power with the ability to modify to a battery source. • The major lure used is CO2 which is fed through a stack on each trap as CO2 is used by the female mosquitoes hunting a blood host. • The CO2 along with light, heat, sound, Infrared, and Biochemical lures make up the attractant system as part of each trapping unit.

  10. Preliminary Product Design • Barrier Unit Setup INSERT FLASH OF MOSQUITOES FOLLOWING CO2 PLUME TO UNIT HERE

  11. Conclusion • The Mosquito Clamp Trap provides an effective lure and air flow system for eliminating mosquitoes and biting midges in the surrounding area. • The unique design utilizes carbon dioxide and a range of lures to attract the mosquitoes into an airstream trapping them before they are eliminated. • The Mosquito Clamp is ideal for use in the hospitality industry, sporting clubs, schools, or by local councils, with potential for future development with aid organisations to help reduce mosquito borne diseases. • Current progress will realise a working prototype by the 4th quarter 2010, and begin manufacturing mid 2011.
