  2. Introduction • Low self-esteem is reaching epidemic levels. The dangers of low self-esteem can be life altering, and if not helped, fatal. In this presentation we will look deeper into the subject and find ways to recognize it, and change. Self worth is something most people have struggled with at some time, don’t be ashamed. “Do not wish to become anything but what you are, and try to be that perfectly.” • –St. Francis De Sales

KNOW THE FACTS: • Low self-esteem is actually a thinking disorder in which an individual views themselves as inadequate, once formed these thoughts permeate them constantly. • Seven in ten girls believe that they are lacking in some way. (Looks, performance in school, relationships, etc.) • 78% of girls with low self-esteem admit that it is hard to feel good at school when you do not feel that you look good. • 75% of girls with low self-esteem reported engaging in harmful, negative activities such as; eating disorders, cutting, bullying, smoking, drinking, etc. when feeling bad about themselves. • 61% of teens with low self-esteem admit to talking badly about themselves. • A main factor in teen promiscuity is self-esteem, when teens do not feel confident they engage in sexual activity to try and fill that void. “It took me a long time to not judge myself threw someone else’s eyes.” -Sally Field

  5. Symptoms • Blaming others • Denial • Unable to express our feelings • Depending on others for self-acceptance • Lack personal boundaries • Quiet/Shyness

Ways to Overcome • Take responsibility for your life • Take time to work on areas in which you struggle • Learn to embrace Failure • Finish what you start • Become a part of something productive • Increase your positive relationships • Release what other people think, and focus on what you think “Sooner or later, those who win are those who think they can.” -Richard Bach
