  2. Switches • Single pole • 3 way • 4 way • Weather proof • Dimmer • Special • Branch circuits/Switch leg connectors

  3. Convenience Outlets • Duplex receptacle • Split wired • Special purpose • 220volt • Weather proof • Ground Fault Interrupt (GFI)

  4. Lighting • Incandescent • Fluorescent • Special • Recessed

  5. Verify Fixture Placement • Outlets • Lights • Switches and switch leg connectors • Miscellaneous fixtures • Exhaust fan • Ceiling fan • TV • Telephone • Smoke detector • Chimes/Bells/Buzzers

  6. Miscellaneous • Exhaust fan • Room air circulating fan • Telephone • TV antenna outlet • Chimes • Smoke detector • Thermostat

  7. Placement of Switches • Each room MUST have at least one light controlled by a switch • Latch side of door/entrance • Outside of closets • Hallways, stairs, garage lighting controlled from both ends (3-way) • Multiple switches for large rooms (3-way)

  8. Placement of Outlets • Furniture/Appliance Considerations • Living & Service areas • One outlet per 6’ of wall • No further than 6’ from each corner • Kitchen area • One outlet per 4’ of wall • Each appliance should have an outlet • Hallways • Every 15’ of wall

  9. Placement of Outlets • Bathrooms • At least two outlets • One above sink or counter • Weatherproof outlets • Each side of exterior • Position for decorative lighting • At least one outlet in attic & crawl space • Ground Fault outlets • Near water sources

  11. Electrical Fixture Plan • Shows approximate fixture placement • Circuit design not included • Electrical loads not considered • Fixtures may be shown on Floor Plan • Avoid crowding • Using CAD • Layers created for various details

  12. Electrical Symbols • Drawn in approximate locations • Standard placement • Switches = 48” high • Outlets = 12” high • Note dimensional changes with symbol when placement varies from standard

  13. Electrical Symbols • Connect symbols for switches to fixtures with switch leg connector symbol • Provide symbol legend • Dimensions not provided except in special situations
