  2. Outline of Presentation Preparation for “Workshop on International Merchandise Trade Statistics, 14-18 November 2011”: • Objectives of the workshop • Participants • Program of the meeting

  3. Objectives of the Workshop • To strengthen the capacities of Member States in • the international standards: IMTS and HS • IT infrastructure for the production of trade statistics • To establish a network and better working relationship between statisticians and custom officers. • To increase the production of quality and comparable merchandise trade statistics.

  4. Participants • 21 Countries: Data availability • Two participants will be invited from each of the invited countries: • One from the National Statistical Offices (NSO); and • Another from the Customs Offices.

  5. Program: International Merchandise Trade Statistics (IMTS) • Overview of IMTS 2010 • Customs –related compilation issues • Imports FOB • Mode of transport; • Customs procedure codes; and • Country of consignment. • Trade and business statistics • Data quality assurance • Dissemination of international trade statistics

  6. Program: Classification & IT Tools • Harmonized commodity description and coding system (HS) • Basic principles of classification in HS • General rules for the interpretation of the HS • HS 2012 • Tools for the classification • EUROTRACE and ASYCUDA++

  7. Points for Discussion • Are the proposed subjects/topics in the Agenda relevant for countries? • What should be added? • What are the potential problem? • What should be deleted? • Any volunteer to make contributions on the subjects/topics?
