Assessment of Rotated ICRF Antenna Performance • Presented by S.J. Wukitch • Goal: • Seek to assess and characterize the rotated 4-strap ICRF antenna performance. • Background: • A new rotated ICRF antenna is to be installed in the near future. • Aligning the antenna with the total magnetic field is predicted to reduce the integrated E|| along a field line. • Calculations suggest the lowest integrated E|| is lowest for [0,0,0,0] phasing which is opposite from traditional antennas.
Assessment of Rotated ICRF Antenna Performance • Primary Tools: • Rotated ICRF antenna and D/E antennas. • Impurity monitoring diagnostics • Experimental Plan: • Assess heating effectiveness and impurity response in L and H-mode plasmas. • Assess antenna operation with phasing • Compare plasma response for rotated antenna to D/E antenna for optimal phasing. • Scan plasma current to evaluate dependence of the alignment of the antenna to the total magnetic field.
