27th November 2017 Subgroup leader: Martin Bauer (NEC), martin.bauer@neclab.eu Subgroup co-leader: Laura Daniele (TNO), laura.daniele@tno.nl WG 03 Semantic Interoperability (SemIoP) Subgroup – Status 11/2017
WG 03 SemIoP – Scope • Semantic Interoperability • Gap analysis concerning interoperability standards • Semantic Interoperability in European Projects • Large Scale Pilots • European Platforms Initiative Projects • Other relevant projects • Support interactions on semantic interoperability • Analyze approaches and provide guidance • Support discussion and promote convergence across different standardization activities • e.g. joint whitepaper with oneM2M, W3C Web of Things, IEEE P2413 • Promote use of common ontologies and best practices • e.g. SAREF
WG 03 SemIoP – History & Success Story • Originally led by Paul Murdock • Provide guidance for LSPs AIOTI WG03 “Semantic Interoperability” • Joint White Paper with oneM2M, W3C Web of Things, IEEE P2413: Semantic Interoperability for the Web of Things • August 2016 • DOI: 10.13140/RG.2.2.25758.13122 • Currently: 6273 Reads • Get people from differentcommunities together • Improve convergence • High visibility
WG 03 SemIoP – Re-Start September 2017 • New leadership team Martin Bauer (NEC) Laura Daniele (TNO) • Goal: continue the successful work started by Paul Murdock
WG 03 SemIoP – Calls & Approach • Resumed regular phone calls • Currently, bi-weekly Friday 15:00-17:00 CET • Problem: overlap with bi-weekly call of AIOTI Board • Plan: starting in January use alternating weeks • In first call, we realized: • New composition of group • Need to understand positions and develop a common basis • Get an understanding of Semantic Interoperability in LSPs and other EU IoT projects, including opportunities for cross-project activities • Asked for position statements and project presentations
IoT Large-Scale Pilots applications and use cases • MONICA: Wearable devices containing sensors and actuators for massive scale applications. • ACTIVAGE: Active and healthy ageing • Approach: Semantic Interoperability Layer (SIL) – Shared Space, SIL API • Build on RDF & OWL, enable publish/subscribe as well as request/response brokering • AUTOPILOT: Automated driving and infrastructure. • IoF2020: Strengthen competiveness of farming and food chains in Europe. • SYNCHRONICITY: Single digital city market for Europe. • CREATE-IoT: Stimulate collaboration between IoT initiatives, by supporting the development and growth of IoT ecosystems based on open technologies and platforms. • U4IoT: Actively engage end-users and citizens to achieve IoT societal acceptance.
IoT - European Platforms Initiative Projects • symbIoTe • Different levels of interoperability considered in SymbIoTe and incremental architectural design adopted. • Core Information Model (based on existing ontologies such as SSN and related to SOSA, mapped to oneM2M Base Ontology, etc.) with extensions so that the different extensions can be used by different IoT platforms. • bIoTope • BIG IoT • AGILE • VICINITY • Web-of-Things based approach, extending Thing Description towards ecosystems • Vicinity cloud, enabling peer-to-peer interactions with discovery and access, taking care of security • TagItSmart! • Inter-IoT • Unify-IoT
WG 03 SemIoP – Plans for 2018 • As the result of the discussions in the calls • More specifically address the objectives and provide deliverable(s) • Re-start cross-SDO activities • SAREF as model for adoption in industrial domains • E.g. Demand-side flexibility project in smart energy sector, Energy5 • Proposal: second white paper with experts from different SDOs • Existing idea, uptake to be decided: • practical example of semantic interoperability to give developer community a hands-on experience
