The Levy- Answers • Who is paying the levy?Companies where the payroll bill is over £3m. • Can it be used to fund existing employees through apprenticeships? Both existing employees and new recruits over 16 will be eligible for an Apprenticeship. • At least 2.3% of the workforce in public sector bodies in England will have to be apprentices. • What will be the benefits of an increase in apprentices? Lots!! From increased employee retention to productivity and efficiencies.
Off-The-Job Training • The rules state that “Off-the-job training must amount to 20 per cent of the apprentice’s contracted employment hours across the whole apprenticeship.” • “The teaching of theory (for example, lectures, role playing, simulation exercises, online learning, manufacturer training). • “Practical training; shadowing; mentoring; industry visits and attendance at competitions. • Learning support and time spent writing assessments/assignments.”
