  1. Australian Standards AS4603 as a Welding Guide Standards Australia, an independent institution, develops Australian and New Zealand Standards. It develops and publishes voluntary technical and commercial standards that are occasionally adopted by occupational safety and health legislation. When a regulation in the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 refers to a standard, workplace participants are required to follow that standard.

  2. Australian standards define specifications and design techniques to assure that products and services work safely, reliably, and as intended. Standards are classified into two types: required and voluntary. Mandatory Standards Mandatory standards are the law, and there are penalties for providing products that do not meet them. They are produced in collaboration with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and public and industry input. Mandatory standards are classified into two types: Safety standards This type of standard required commodities to meet specific performance, composition, content, manufacturing or processing procedure, design, construction, finish, or packaging requirements. Information Standards This type of standard states that labelling, clear instructions, and warnings against possible misuse are all prescribed. Voluntary Standards Voluntary standards are public documents that represent best practises in general. They are not legally binding and are developed by non-governmental organisations such as Standards Australia and the international organisation ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation). Voluntary standards can be found and purchased online By strictly implementing the Australian Standards in welding procedures, we help in the safety not only of the welder but also everyone in the vicinity where the welding process takes place. One of the things required under AS4603 is flashback arrestor testing. This is a process where flashback arrestors are checked if they are still fit to serve their purpose. Workshop cabinets are not required but can help heaps when it comes to keeping your workshop in order. Having these cabinets within the workshop can help also in terms of the efficiency of the workers are they don’t have to roam around and spend a lot of time looking for the things that they need as they know where to find them exactly.

  3. Weld and Safety Weld and safety are two things that must always come together and nothing between these two can be compromised for the other. In line with this, providing complete and quality personal protective equipment such as welding jackets, welding helmets, eyeglasses, aprons, and the such must all be provided for the staff. This is to ensure their safety. WeldConnect is one of the most well-known Australian welding safety providers. Not only do they offer certification, but they also provide a wide range of welding machines and spares, abrasive and workshop tools, and medical needs. Aside from flashback arrestor testing, they also provide testing and maintenance for oxyacetylene safety equipment. It’s really just a one-stop shop. If you wish to be part of their growing company or take part in a growing industry or just want to help people in their safety, you may want to visit the WeldConnect franchise enquiries to know more information. AS4603 in a Nutshell Australian Standards AS4603 specifies the requirements and tests for safety devices for fuel gases, oxygen, or compressed air used downstream cylinders or pipelines, outlet regulators, and pipeline outlet points, as well as upstream of blowpipes used for welding, cutting, brazing, soldering, and other associated processes. In this matter, flashback arrestors are required by the Australian standard AS4839-2001 (“The safe use of portable and mobile oxy-fuel gas systems”). Because of this criterion, flashback arrestors are required by health and safety authorities in all Australian states and territories. If you have flashback arrestors installed, you should be aware that Australian Standards AS4603 and AS4839 require all flashback arrestors to be inspected or replaced at least once every six months or twelve months at most and after a flashback has occurred. Qualified repairers should do the testing. AS4839 also requires that flashback arrestors be updated every five years. Many operators are increasingly choosing to replace flashback arrestors rather than test them, especially because flashback arrestor costs have typically declined in recent years. Apart from the cost of testing, the disruption and delay associated with dismantling equipment (and waiting for testing to be completed before it can be used again) is frequently significant and outweighs the cost of replacing components. Furthermore, it is extremely rare for a percentage of devices to fail due to 'wear and tear' and necessitate replacement, incurring additional costs in addition to testing.
