What defines a GP trainer/educator • GP trainer • Deanery approved trainer • Royal College accredited medical trainer/educator
What are the options ? • To train as a Faculty Registered Trainer : - as a GP trainer/educator - to complete Loc Med Training • To become an Assessor
Why become a FRT trainer for the DFSRH and Loc IUT/SDI • Keeping up to date • Facilitating training ( tutorials can be dual purpose) • Mutually beneficial for you and the trainee • Keeps costs down for your trainee • A FRT can also be approved to sign off ACPs (Assessment of Clinical Practice) for other trainees • “Diplomatosis” • Public Health
How to become a FRT • Current DFSRH or MFSRH (>12 /12) or FFSRH • Current LoC SDI or LoC IUT if intending to work as a Trainer for these qualifications • Be actively involved clinically in SRH • Be recommended by a GenTPD • Have relevant accreditation or qualification medical education :- - hold a current LoCMEd - be a Deanery approved trainer in Primary Care - be a Royal College accredited medical trainer/educator www.fsrh.org/pdfs/formE1.pdf
How to become a FRT cont..... • be knowledgeable about the syllabus, regulations and logbook of relevant Faculty qualifications.. • undergo a satisfactory structured interview with a Senior Faculty Assessor (GT) nominated by the Deanery Advisor, who will complete the appropriate Form E4. • Submit the completed Form E4 to the Faculty within 3 months of completion
DFSRH • Tutorials can be used as ACPs (Assessment of Clinical Practice) if observing consultations • A Faculty Registered trainer can also complete RDCPs (Reflection and Discussion of Clinical Practice) • An Assessor can complete 2 ACPs
Why become an Assessor • An assessor who is not a Faculty Registered Trainer must be approved by the primary trainer. The individual should be known to the primary trainer; • Acceptance as an assessor for one particular assessment for one trainee does not imply recognition in any other circumstances without prior approval of the primary trainer • http://www.fsrh.org/pdfs/DFSRHFormE.pdf
Loc IUT/SDIs • Need to have up to date certificates to train for Loc IUT/SDI • Loc SDI - Completion of e-SRH module 17 • Practical model arm training also included in the course of 5 • Training requirements for Loc SDI • http://www.fsrh.org/pdfs/FormX.pdf • Training requirements of Loc IUT • http://www.fsrh.org/pdfs/FormT.pdf
70% of those who responded would like to get involved in training
Conclusions • The survey shows that there is a willingness for GP trainers/eductators to be trainers for the DFSRH and Loc IUT/SDI • This could resolve many waiting lists and other barriers if more trainers became FRTs • Helping trainees complete the DFSRH and Loc SDI/IUT • This presentation summarises and simplifies the process of how to become a FRT and the advantages of doing so
