3 Basic Ingredients • Characters (people, pets) • Setting (places, locations) • Plot (events, action) • Helps to include: • Conflict, Tension, Trouble • Humor, Romance • Maybe a Few Tears • *All should be in believable details*
Forms of Autobiographical Writing • Biography: • Nonfiction account of a person’s life written, composed, or produced by another writer. • Autobiography: • Nonfiction account of a person’s life written by that actual person.
Forms of Autobiographical Writing • Memoir: • Kind of autobiography which focuses on a certain time period, special relationship, or angle of his/her life. • Piece of “pie” from your life.
Successful Autobiographies Include: • Attention grabbers • Focused well-defined incidents • Background info of incidents • Includes ALL plot elements • Clear order of events and details • Description and dialogue • Precise language and specific details • Tell why (conclusion) the incident was important
4 Lies About Autobiographies • You have to be a famous celebrity. • You must have an amazing life. • You can’t write your life story until you’re old and gray. • Nobody will read it, so what’s the point?
Homework: • Gather important artifacts from your life. • Put things that are important to you in a box or bag. • Each item you bring in, make sure it is filled with a story and/or important memory.
