  10. What are the Common Core Standards? • Clear and consistent expectations for student learning in English Language Arts and Mathematics • Designed to prepare K-12 students for college and career success Standards tell us what students should know and be able to do at each grade level

A Brief History… • States requested… • Create K-12 standards that ensure that all students are college and career ready in literacy and mathematics by the end of high school • The standards were developed based on: • current research • international models • input from multiple sources including state departments of education, scholars, educators from K-college, parents and students • Anchored in College and Career Readiness (CCR) Standards From www.corestandards.org

  14. Assessments • Spring 2015 – Shift to online testing in grades 3-5 from SmarterBalance • District Benchmark assessments beginning this school year (approx. week 12 and week 24) to support a smooth transition to the Smarter Balance Assessments.
