US SailingUniversal Measurement System (UMS)Measurer Seminar HPR Measurement & Processing
HPR Measured Items - FO • FO - Forward Overhang • - if the bow knuckle is above the waterline, FO shall be the horizontal distance from the forward end of LOA to the point where a 45 degree angle intersects the knuckle • - if the bow knuckle is below the waterline, FO equals the horizontal distance from the forward end of LOA to the intersection of the stem with the waterline • IMS B6.10 Note: With exposed knuckle, FO is independent of trim/float condition Note: FO = IRC BO - IRC x
HPR Measured Items - FBI • FBI - Freeboard at Fore Side of Mast • - the average of port and starboard freeboards measured vertically from the sheer point to the water level at the section at the fore side of the mast • IMS B6.8 Point to Measure FBI
HPR Measured Items - CPW / CPD • CPW - Chainplate Width • - the distance between the centers of the bearing points of the chainplates for the upper shrouds of the mainmast • CPD - Chainplate Diagonal • - the distance between the center of the bearing point of the chainplate for the upper • shrouds to the mainmast centerline • IMS F6.3 / F6.4
HPR Measurement Requirements - Vcg Source • Component Method • - Full hull measurement in empty lightship condition • -- Length, beam, draft, overhangs, freeboards • -- Weigh boat • -- Weigh keel/bulb and determine cg • - Full rig measurement - plus mast weight/cg and boom weight • - Full sail measurement • Incline Method • - Verified offsets file required • - Incline and measure freeboardsin empty lightship condition • -- Weighing highly desireable • - Full rig measurement • - Full sail measurement
HPR Measurement Requirements • Never Rated under any Rule -- Full Measurement: • - Vcg via Component Method • - Vcg via Incline Method • Boats with Fully Measured ORR certificate: • - Vcg (lightship): • -- Direct from ORR incline/float data if boat measured in lightship condition • -- Calculated from ORR incline/float data if boat measured in ORR trim IF complete Measurement Inventory with weights and location is available • -- Otherwise, new freeboards required (but not incline) • - In-water: FBI and Y measured in lightship • - Rig: CPD, CPW measured • - Sails: Additional headsail dimensions required • Boats with Endorsed* IRC certificate: • - Vcg via Incline Method or Component Method • - In-water: FFM, FAM, FBI measured in lightship • - Rig: IG, ISP, BAS, BD, FSP, CPD, CPW measured • - Sails: Additional mainsail and headsail dimensions required • * Endorsed with scale weight or DSPM and measured hull data • IRC One Design certificates are Endorsed but not weighed and measured • There are a few IRC Endorsed certificates based on RORC Standard Hull Data • Talk to Offshore first • - Confirm what data is on file • - Confirm what data needs to be measured
HPR Processing Flow Inputs from Measurer Incline Method Pre-processing (lightship) - VPP run -- Vcg -- Measurement trim freeboard calculation -- Weight and draft Hull Measurements Incline Method Pre-processing (ORR trim) - Vcg moment calculation with Measurement Inventory data - Empty weight calculation - VPP run -- Measurement trim freeboard calculation -- Draft Rig and Sail Measurements Component Method Pre-processing - Vcg moment calculation from individual hull, keel/bulb, mast and boom weights and cgs - Measurement trim freeboard calculation Hull Measurements and Calculations HPR Calculator
