Prayer shapes us when we let the Holy Spirit and not what we think or feel Form us.
When we feed ourselves on what we feel God has not done we undermine our own confidence and faith in God. We keep a mental log of what we have prayed, whom we have prayed for, and what we feel has worked and what hasn’t. We carry that baggage of incompleteness or failure which can define the next moment we pray.
Look at what Jesus is doing and stop looking at what you feel or think He is not doing.
Prayer shapes us when we recognize that our prayer life is meant to grow and expand.
Exercising His authority. • Practicing the Kingdom now. • Contending for His presence today.
Prayer shapes us when we insist on the Holy Spirit forming every aspect of our prayer lives.
those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. Romans 8.5 • but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8.6 • And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. Romans 8.27 Inspired Prayer begins with a Spirit-inspired Mind
walk by the Spirit Galatians 5.16 • led by the Spirit, Galatians 5.18 • live by the Spirit, Galatians 5.25 • keep in step with the Spirit, Galatians 5.25 • sow to please the Spirit. Galatians 6.8 Inspired Prayer is the result of a Spirit-filled Life
“ . . . if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.” 1 John 3.21 Prayer shapes us when our asking is located in Relationship
When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. James 4.3 • This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5.14 Asking in Relationship
It is not our ideas, thoughts, or feelings that shape our prayer, but our character and conduct that has been formed by His Spirit. Prayer takes its tone and quality from the person praying. A prayerless person is • spiritually handicapped, • spiritually disabled, • impotent in the things of the kingdom.
Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance; it is laying hold of His willingness.
Lord Jesus, give us everything that pleases you. Give us what you will and do with us what you wish for as long as it pleases you. Brother Lawrence
