And avoid their negative ones- I Cor. 10:11
The kingdom was divided after Solomon’s death
10 tribes rebelled against Rehoboam
And formed the Northern Kingdom of Israel
3. Introduction-2 Judah & Benjamin formed the kingdom of Judah
Israel started in idolatry & stayed in it
All of its kings were wicked
Some of Judah’s kings practiced idolatry
But they also had some good kings
Who lead reform & return to God
Jehoshaphat was one of those good kings
4. Jehoshaphat’s Life He walked in the former ways of David- II Chron. 17:3-4
This is a high compliment for any person
Called a man after God’s own heart-I Sam. 13:14
Jehoshaphat was zealous for God’s word & way
Despite the idolatry in Israel & in His kingdom
Many today worship self & possessions
We must stand firm though in the minority
5. Jehoshaphat’s Righteous Reign-1 Removed places of idol worship-II Chron.17:6
Showing his strong disapproval- Eph. 5:11
He wanted other to know God’s law
And had it taught to the people-II Chron. 17:8-9
Wants people to know his word today-Eph. 5:17
We are priests & teachers-I Pet.2:5 & Acts 8:4
Others need to be trained to teach it- II Tim. 2:2
6. Jehoshaphat’s Righteous Reign-2 Notice the result of teaching of God’s word
Brought fear to enemies & peace in Judah- V10
Teaching & heeding God’s word today
Will bring salvation of souls & peace with God
And exalt this nation- Prov. 14:34
Jehoshaphat wanted justice for his people
He set up judges- II Chron. 19:5-7
And charged them to judge fairly & impartially

Still wants us to deal fairly & honestly with each others- Jas. 2:8
Other results of Jehoshaphat’s reforms
He had wealth & honor- II Chron. 17:5
Others feared him & brought him tribute- V11
God will honor those who honor Him-I Sam. 2:30
8. Jehoshaphat’s Mistakes-1 He consorted with God’s enemies-II Chron. 19:2
Made an alliance with Ahab-II Chron. 18:1
Marked for destruction because of his evil deeds
We are warned about such alliances-II Cor. 6:14
Results of his alliance
1. He was deceived
By Ahab’s false prophets & his just cause
And went to battle with Ahab
Who disguised himself

And his life was endangered
Some study the Bible to confirm their beliefs or justify their intentions
God helped Jehoshaphat- V31
But Ahab was killed as Micaiah predicted- V27

10. Jehoshaphat’s Mistakes-3 Part of his alliance with Ahab- II Chron. 18:1
She had a strong evil influence in Judah- 21:4-6
God struck him with an incurable disease-V18
Athaliah murdered all his sons except Joash
And seized the throne
Jehoshaphat could not have imagined the consequences of his alliance
We are affected by our associates- I Cor. 15:33
11. Jehoshaphat’s Greatest Victory-1 A great army of Moabites, Ammonites & Edomites marched against Judah-II Chron.20:1
He had four options
To fight & depend on his own army
To hire help as his father did- 16:2
To surrender
Or to seek God’s help
12. Jehoshaphat’s Greatest Victory-2 He proclaimed a fast- V3
And he prayed to God for help- 20:5-12
God heard & answered his prayer
And promised to defeat his enemies
God gave his singing army the victory- V21-22
God still hears His people’s prayers- I Pet 3:12
And He will give help to those who trust in Him
Are you trusting in Him now?
