Past collaboration • IMF’s Statistics Department (STA) and China’s data compiling agencies have engaged in a substantial amount of technical cooperation since China rejoined the IMF in April 1980 • Bilateral projects have been mostly in areas of statistics other than national accounts and prices, in monetary, balance of payments, and government finance statistics • Training has been as important a modality as bilateral projects in real sector statistics • China Training Program (CTP) • Singapore Training Institute (STI) IMF International cooperation with the NBS

Current collaboration • Chinese delegations from NBS have visited IMF/STA on information and consultative visits • On NBS work in real sector statistics • On China’s participation in the General Data Dissemination System (GDDS), and on China’s future achievement of Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) requirements. IMF International cooperation with the NBS

Future collaboration • The NBS has identified the following opportunities for collaboration with IMF/STA: • Training programs at CTP or other collaborative venues • Price statistics, including service sector prices, such as real estate and transportationThe training could be conducted through (a) a tailored training course in China to resolve specific issues, and (b) hands-on training of NBS statisticians in advanced countries • National accountsThis training could be conducted through (a) a training course on national accounts based on the System of National Accounts 2008, and (b) a tailored seminar and a TA mission on specific topics with some case studies, such as GDP accounting, research on supply and use methodology, and regional GDP accounting. • NBS staff might also be able to work at the IMF on tours of up to six months under the visiting staff program IMF International cooperation with the NBS
